There has never been a better time to drink high quality beer.
Pubs and supermarkets are stocking a wider range of craft beers than ever before, and bottle shops are popping up all over the place.
If you are reading this, I'm guessing you consider yourself a fan who is passionate about sampling as many of these beautiful beers as possible...right?
Finding the best quality beers is 'your thing'. But even though you are spending upwards of hundreds of pounds a month, on boxes of bottles and crates of cans, how much do you really know about this hoppy hobby you love?
You're eager to learn more and take the next step on your beer journey...But where exactly do you start?
Sure, there are a bunch of forums on Facebook you can go to, but how can you trust that the person who's writing there is an expert?
And of course, there are some great YouTube channels and books, covering the brewing process and different beer styles, but they are hard to find amongst the hours of poor, boring content.
I know this because... I was in your position too! Thirsty for more information (and beers), over a decade ago when I first went down the rabbit hole.
It led me to seek out my first job in the beer world, at BrewDog, arguably the UK kings of craft beer.
And I got well and truly schooled through their program!
I continued to learn...
I took courses, I read up about beer and I listened to hundreds of brewers talk about their craft.
And a few years later, I setup my own beer shop, We Brought Beer in London, dedicated to celebrating beer in its many forms, and helping customers navigate the often confusing world of craft beer through education, events and tastings. It’s made us very much a destination venue, not just for those in the local area but from across London.
But recently I got to thinking about how can we share the knowledge from all the experts in our industry to a wider audience.
I decided we needed to bring our beer tastings and beer classes online!
So whether you want to start improving your home brew, start finding the 'next big thing' in the industry, learn how to properly taste beer or simply to share a few more interesting facts and recommendations the next time you are down the pub with your mates, we’re working on a course for you!
It’s with that in mind that I’m really excited to bring you our very first course...Beer 101: exploring and demystifying the fundamentals of beer.

Your Instructor
James Hickson is the owner of We Brought Beer, a multi-award winning bottle shop in London. He has over a decade of experience working in the beer industry, having previously worked at BrewDog during their early years. From first discovering great beer 15 years ago whilst at university, James’ beer knowledge has been growing ever since, through formal courses, helping out in breweries, and running numerous beer events including large and small format beer schools. Over the past 15 years he has also tasted literally 1000s of beers across all styles. James’ passion for craft beer led to him setting up his own bottle shop in 2014 with a mission to celebrate beer and enhance how his customers experience the beer in their glass, through education, events and tasting.
